Until recently, rooftop solar panels were a clean energy technology that only wealthy Americans could afford. A considerable proportion of the income in a lower-class household is spent on energy. The inability to afford energy has led to several households living in homes with unsafe temperature levels or having to cut expenses on other necessities to live comfortably.
